Omega Summer Slam
Hey all,
There have been a lot of questions about our upcomming Youth Conference “Omega Summer Slam” (Yeah I know it’s a cool name). So I though I would take a moment to get you the details so your in “the Know”. The dates are Aug. 5th-8th. It starts Wednesday night at 6:45p in the main church building. (105 West Redoubt Ave. Soldotna AK) & it ends Saturday at 11:00a out at Alaska Christian Retreat. (End of Deville rd. Mile marker 89 on the Sterling HWY.) The cost is only $25, you can’t beat that deal anywhere. Your student will need clothes for the 3 days (we will be playing paintball so dress appropriately), sleeping bag, personal items i.e. Toothbrush toothpaste and deodorant (No stinky kids please!), & we will have a snack bar open so they may purchase snacks if they wish. Also they will need a bible, the permission slip and a great attitude! All the main meals are included, transportation from the the church Wednesday night is included, and all the activities are included! We will have a registration table at the church Wednesday night, that is when all money and permission slips are due. Video opener from 3PY tonight…
This is just way to funny not to share. We played this to open service tonight at Third Place Youth, I wish I had a camera to capture the face of our students. Priceless!!!
Bless Back
At Third Place Youth we launched a new project called “Bless Back” I got the idea last year from an awesome church on the east coast, you can check them out here. The main idea behind this project is for our students to give to someone who they want to sow into. This week instead of taking an offering like any normal service, we GAVE our students an envelope with cash in it. Amounts ranging from $3 to $5. They were challenged to go sow into people. I’ve been captivated by the parable Jesus told in Mark 4:26, where he said the kingdom of God is like a farmer. I’m praying our students will learn from this that they should have a farmer mentality, constantly sowing. I love how Galatians 6:10 says that when ever we have the opportunity to do good we should do good to everyone. I’m seeing that the lack we get so annoyed with is caused by our lack of sowing. I’m not sure everyone “got it” tonight, but I’m praying they will. I ask our students to write about their experience during this “bless back” project, so as the stories come in I’ll post them.

Making Worship Real.
A topic I’ve had on my mind a lot lately is how do we make Jesus real to people who don’t care? I have kinda coined the term “Church Monkey” in 3PY the last 2 weeks, witch I understand may be a little over the top. However, it communicates the very real problem that many people just act in church how they are trained to act. They show up on Sunday only because it’s time for church, not because their passion and drive to grow and serve is so overwhelming that they simply can’t stay home. Maybe in some other post I’ll dive into the term “church monkey” more in depth but for all purposes today I’ll leave it alone. On to the core of this rambling. I saw this video from Mars Hill church, it’s worship, it’s raw, It’s not anything like I’ve ever heard before in a worship context.
Could you imagine if this was the sounds you heard coming from your local church? Just a guess but I think church would be filled with less “church monkeys” and more people interested in finding a meaningful relationship with the Almighty Creator, God.
some stuff
It’s been a few days, no apologies though. I’ve been working on some stuff so here you go:
1. New Podcast on 3PY page
2. New series at 3PY on wednesday nights. 6:45p if your in the area.
3. New look for both blogs: 3PY and here.
4. Watched some killer movies. (sidenote: right now there are a lot of good movies out, go spend some time with friends or family watching a good movie)
5. Getting ready for our churches conference next month & our very first youth conference (more info to come on that)
It’s been busy but productive. I think I like it that way!
Trying New Things
So tonight at 3PY we did something I’ve never done before. For worship we used a loop under our live music. I must say I had my doubts, but WOW it sounded good! It was just a simple loop that I made in garageband but I think it did the trick, and any reason to get a mac on stage is good in my book. I can defintly see a future for loops in our music every week. Maybe tomorrow I’ll upload the loop I made, but it’s late tonight and I’m going to bed.
